Introducting Tap & Cap to ensure you pay no more than a longer term ticket
3 days ago
From today, Monday 12 October, paying for your bus journey with GoBus just got simpler. Our new Tap & Cap system means you can tap your contactless card, phone or watch on every journey and we’ll make sure you never pay more than the best-value ticket for the travel you make.
There’s nothing to work out and nothing to buy ahead. Tap & Cap adds up your journeys and caps what you pay automatically.
How much will I pay?
- School services: no more than £8 a day or £38 a week
- 477: no more than £5.50 a day or £25 a week
- Daytime services: no more than £7.30 a day
For example, school journeys at £4 each are capped at £8 a day and £38 a week. Weekly caps run over a rolling 7 days, so you never pay more than the weekly cap in any 7 days in a row.
Half-termly cap coming next term
From next term, students who keep tapping the same card on school services will have their total for each half-term capped at the termly ticket price. That’s the value of a season ticket without paying for one upfront.
One golden rule: use the same card every time
Caps only add up on one card. Your phone or watch counts as a different card from the bank card linked to it, so if you start the week tapping your phone, keep using your phone.
Where can I use it?
Tap & Cap works on all our school services, the 477, and daytime services 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 208, 280, 283, 289, 401, 429 and CB1. Each group is capped separately, and any journey on a school service counts towards the school cap. Tap & Cap is not available on Go2 or the 88.3.
